PM Suryaghar Muft Bijili Yojana

PM Suryaghar Muft Bijili Yojana

To boost the usage of solar energy in the residential sector, India has a solar subsidy programme in place. It reduces the financial burden of installing solar panels, by providing financial assistance to consumers. With this incentive, residential consumers can save their installation cost. Moreover, individuals from across the country can apply for these grants. But how much is the incentive and how can individuals claim it? Let’s understand it further.

Who can avail of the solar rooftop subsidy in India?

Central Financial Assistance (CFA or subsidy) is available for residential sector grid-connected solar rooftop projects only. For other sectors e.g. Govt., institutional, social commercial, industrial etc. CFA is not available.
To avail solar subsidy, consumers need to get the systems installed only through the empaneled vendors (by DISCOMs). Some common instances when subsidy under Rooftop Solar (RTS) Ph-II program is not applicable:
  1. If RTS plants are installed by such vendors who are not empaneled by the DISCOMs.
  2. If RTS plants have been installed before the launching of the scheme.
  3. If RTS plants are installed in any consumer category other than Residential.

How much subsidy is available in India for installing Grid Connected Solar Rooftop Systems?

The details are as follows:
  1. Solar energy systems with a capacity of 1 kW are eligible for a subsidy of up to Rs. 30,000/-.
  2. Solar energy systems with a capacity of 2 kW are eligible for a subsidy of up to Rs. 60,000/-.
  3. Solar energy systems with a capacity of 3 kW are eligible for a subsidy of up to Rs. 78,000/-.
  4. For a system capacity above 3 kW i.e. 4 kW to 10 kW are eligible for a subsidy of up to Rs. 78,000/-.
Solar System Capacity Solar Subsidy Cashback Amount in Rs.
  1. 1 kWp INR 30,000/-
  2. 2 kWp INR 60,000/-
  3. 3 kWp INR 78,000/-

  9. 9 kWp INR 78,000/-
  10. 10 kWp INR 78,000/-
As per the current national solar policy, to avail subsidy, one needs to use domestically manufactured solar panels (DCR Solar Panels). Currently, two type of solar panels are eligible for subsidy under national solar portal:
  1. Poly Silicone Solar Panels 335Wp or similar range
  2. Mono PERC Solar Panels 515Wp to 545Wp

How to Apply for Solar Subsidy?

Recently, the government launched the National Portal for Rooftop Solar, to make the process for applying for solar much simpler. Now, a consumer from anywhere across India, can directly apply for a solar subsidy online, and track the entire process from application to the transfer of subsidy funds into the bank account.
To be eligible for the grant the following criteria have to be met:
  • Ensure that their entire solar project is implemented through the national portal. The application to the technical feasibility check to installation every stage must be undertaken based on the portal procedure.
  • Consumers have to get their system installed through empaneled vendors (The list of state-wise registered vendors is available on the portal).
  • Only domestically manufactured solar panels (both module and cells) can be used.
  • Compliance with all MINRE guidelines and technical specifications is mandatory.
A consumer can apply online at National Portal www.pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
